NJ toddler shoots friend: 4-year-old fatally shoots 6-year-old with .22 rifle, After a NJ toddler shot his friend with a .22-caliber rifle in the head while the parents were home, the topic of gun control is expanding to toddler control and parent control. Six-year-old Brandon Holt from Toms River in New Jersey died on Tuesday just a day after he was shot in the head by his four-year-old neighbor, reported USA Today on April 9, 2013.
On Monday late afternoon, the four-year-old toddler and his six-year-old friend were playing outside of their homes when the four-year-old toddler ran into his house, came back with a .22 rifle, and one shot was fired.
According to Police Chief Michael Mastronardy, six-year-old Brandon was only about 15 yards away from his house and sitting in an all-terrain vehicle when the shot was fired. “The boy's father immediately secured the .22-caliber gun while the mother called 911.”
Authorities have not determined yet whether the four-year-old toddler actually pulled the gun's trigger or whether the .22-caliber rifle discharged accidentally.
Authorities are also investigating on how a four-year-old could have such an easy access to a loaded .22-caliber rifle.
The parents of the NJ toddler who shot his friend fatally on Monday could be facing criminal charges for allowing a minor to get hold of a loaded firearm.
