Iran blames US for Korea tension

Iran blames US for Korea tension, The Islamic Republic of Iran on Tuesday called on North Korea and South Korea to stand down and settle its differences peacefully, but made it clear it believes the United States is to blame for tension in the region.

"Tensions in the region are due to excessive demands by the United States and its tightening of the noose on North Korea," Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri said in a statement published by the Iranian Students’ News Agency. "North Korean authorities are left with no choice but to confront the actions of the United States."

Korea is under United Nations sanctions, stating “the DPRK shall abandon all nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs, in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner.”

U.N. officials have also accused Iran of violating international law by launching Shabab 1 and 3 missiles as part of the Great Prophet Exercise 7 in July of 2012.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday again dismissed the allegations, saying Iran wants to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes and other nations are merely trying to monopolize the nuclear power industry.
