They initially got a call at around 2am regarding a domestic dispute and a shooting on East Rose Bay Street, with the suspect, a woman and the 5-month-old child present at the time, Long Beach Police Department said.
When officers arrived the man and the child were gone. They believe he had the baby with him.
The suspect returned to the location at around 3 a.m., and when officers confronted him there was an exchange of gun fire, however the suspect managed to escape in his car. Police chased him down all the way to San Pedro.
Gun fire was exchanged again, and despite a police officer being injured by broken glass, the suspect, who was not hit by gun fire, was arrested and the child taken into protective custody. The baby is being examined for any sort of injuries.
