Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth was announced as the Sexiest Man alive of 2014 by People magazine on the show Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night. Click through to see his life and career in pictures.
In 2012, Chris Hemsworth was also a recipient of the Choice Summer Movie Star: Male Award at the Teen Choice Awards and the People’s Choice Award the following year.
In 2013, Hemsworth ranked #7 in Glamour magazine's list of "50 Sexiest Men" of 2013, behind his younger brother Liam Hemsworth.
The hammer-wielder is brother to actors Liam Hemsworth (C) and Luke Hemsworth (L) – both actors.
Hemsworth started his career with the character Kim Hyde in the Australian soap opera Home and Away (1988). Other famous Aussies like Heath Ledger, Isla Fisher, Simon Baker and Naomi Watts were also regulars on the show before him.

Chris won a Logie for the Most Popular Male Talent in May 2005.
In 2006, he entered the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars (2004) and was the fifth contestant to be eliminated from the show.

After three years on Home and Away, Hemsworth made his way to Hollywood in 2007. His first break was with JJ Abrams in the 2009 remake of Star Trek. His part as Captain Kirk’s dad, though small, was enough to get him noticed for the big screen.
Even though his first Hollywood appearance was in Star Trek (2009), it was his titular role in Thor (2011), which propelled him instant stardom. His character has been reprised multiple times since then.
Chris Hemsworth gained 20 pounds or nine kilos for the title role in Thor (2011).
Management company ROAR, who handle Hemsworth also represent Brazilian model Elsa Pataky, who went on to become his future wife.
Three months after going public with their romance, the then 27-year-old Chris married Pataky on Christmas weekend in 2010 in Australia.

Formula 1 race driver James Hunt was represented on screen by Chris Hemsworth in Rush, directed by Ron Howard. The movie focused on the 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda. The character of Lauda was played by actor Daniel Brühl.
The 6'2" actor has an effortless ability to bring in big movie crowds, especially female fans, thanks to his chiselled good looks.
After Rush, Ron Howard will once again direct Chris Hemsworth in forthcoming movie – a shipwrecked tale based on a true story, In the Heart of the Sea. The movie is due to release in March 2015.
In 2015, the audience will also see Hemsworth in an action drama Blackhat, directed by Michael Mann. Viola davis and William Mapother will also be seen alongside him.
Hemsworth is dad to three children with wife Elsa: two-year-old daughter India, and eight-month-old twins – Sasha and Tristan.
