Patrick Duffy In Talks To Save Dallas, TNT may have canceled “Dallas,” but there is still hope that the TV show may find a home on another network according to “Dallas” star Patrick Duffy, who spoke to Minnesota radio station, myTalk 107.1, on Wednesday, November 5.
The actor, who played Bobby Ewing on both the original series (1978-1991) and the revival, encourages fans to keep fighting for a fourth season.
“We don’t know, as cast members, the potential of what’s out there,” Duffy told radio host Jason Matheson. “What the bottom line is – is numbers, and the more people we can reach out to, the fanbase expanding, just the Twitter base expanding, has an effect, has a verifiable effect, maybe not on TNT because that door has closed, but certainly on potential open doors, so until we as a cast and (executive producer) Cythia Cidre says, ‘Stop, it’s a dead issue,’ we should keep going forward, and as a cast, we encourage every one of our followers to do that.”
TNT announced the cancellation of the show early in October. Viewership of the series had declined over the past three seasons, but “Dallas” remains to have a loyal fan base.
“We have the most remarkable fan base that I have ever heard of,” Duffy said. “These people are the most phenomenal, proactive group of fans that I ever heard of.”
Since the cancellation, “Dallas” fans from across the globe have been campaigning to save the show. A petition was set up, which already has over 83,000 signatures. Fans have also taken their #SaveDallas campaign to Twitter. More than 745, 000 #SaveDallas tweets have been sent during the past month according to the Dallas Decoder fan website.
Duffy believes the fans’ actions aren’t in vain, and thinks TNT is probably surprised by the campaigns that are occurring to save “Dallas.”
“I think it probably has an effect on TNT to the extent that they didn’t realize the full potential of what they had in their grasp,” Duffy said.
“We made a wonderful show in my opinion and we have a fan base that is ever expanding, not diminishing, but ever expanding,” Duffy added.
Fans should keep continuing their efforts to save “Dallas,” according to Duffy.
“Keep going is the basic mantra,” he said. “Don’t give up is the basic mantra.”
