Georgia O'Keeffe exhibition in Indy through Feb. 15, If you're looking for a day-trip idea, or if you're headed to Indianapolis or nearby for family holidays, here's a recommendation:
Go see the Indianapolis Museum of Art to see its latest major exhibition: "Georgia O'Keeffe and the Southwestern Still Life." It runs through Feb. 15.
The exhibition puts O'Keeffe's paintings in context with her contemporaries creating art in the region and exploring the meaning of place. Other artists represented include Marsden Hartley and Gustave Baumann.
"Southwestern Still Life" features 68 works, 24 by O'Keeffe. The organizing curator is Charles Eldredge, former director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. A 160-page book by Eldredge accompanies the exhibition.
The Indianapolis museum owns three O'Keeffe paintings, including "Jimson Weed" and "Grey Hills." The Cincinnati Art Museum acquired its first O'Keeffe painting, "In My Backyard (1943)," a Southwestern landscape, in May 2013.
