Now we sort of know Wonder Woman's origin story in 'Batman v Superman', Wonder Woman is one of the most famous superheroes of our superhero-besotted century, but the character’s backstory is confusing and hazy, rife with reboots and retcons and various frustrated attempts to reconcile the various far-flung aspects of Wonder Woman’s history. Pretty much every version of Wonder Woman is some kind of princess of some kind of Amazons, a warrior woman from an all-female society. But the specifics shift, occasionally in bizarre directions. (For a long time, it was generally accepted that Wonder Woman was originally made out of clay.)

The character will finally make it to the big screen in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Etc, and producer Charles Roven offered some clarity about which version of Wonder Woman will inspire the incarnation played in the movie by Gal Gadot. Speaking at the Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television, Roven said that Wonder Woman is “a demigod…her father was Zeus.” This gibes with the re-rebooted origin story introduced in 2011, when Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang began their acclaimed run on the character.

It’s unclear to what extent the Zeus backstory will factor into a movie that already has to introduce new versions of Batman, Lex Luthor, and possibly Aquaman, plus finding some time for Lois Lane to do something. But this could imply that Warner Bros. is looking at Wonder Woman as the Thor of their DC megafranchise, with a solo movie focusing on her mythological backstory. Maybe her cells have been infused with the genetic codex of all the Greek Gods. What’s a genetic codex again?
