Raekwon McMillan, top linebacker in the 2014 recruiting class, commits to Ohio State, Another coveted 2014 prospect is off the board. Liberty County (Ga.) High linebacker Raekwon McMillan announced his decision to attend Ohio State on Monday, beating out Auburn, Georgia, Clemson and Alabama.

In a ceremony broadcast on NBC Sports Network, McMillan cited early playing time and the Buckeyes’ family vibe as the reasons for his commitment. He fumbled with an Alabama hat before ultimately grabbing an Ohio State cap.

“It was just something special about Ohio State University,” McMillan said on NBCSN. “Every time I visited the school. Every time I talked to coach [Urban] Meyer on the phone. Every time I talked to coach [Luke] Fickell. Every time we sat down to talk. We just had a special bond.”

The Hinesville, Ga., native is the top-rated linebacker in the class of 2014 and 19th best player overall, according to Rivals.com. Ohio State was the last school to make its pitch, as coach Urban Meyer and several assistants made an in-home visit with the defensive star on Sunday evening. At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, McMillan already has the size to make a collegiate impact, and he boasts good speed as well. He has a reputation for making huge hits — and could potentially get into some trouble if he repeatedly goes for the home-run play — and the type of rare athleticism that can cover up a lot of mistakes.
