Report: Iranian deputy minister shot dead in Tehran, A gunman in Tehran shot and killed Iranian Deputy Industry Minister Safdar Rahmatabadi as the official traveled in his car, the state news agency reported.
The Islamic Republic News Agency said Rahmatabadi was attacked Sunday evening in Sabalan Square in the eastern section of the Iranian capital.
The report said Rahmatabadi was shot in the chest and head.
"Investigations show that two bullets were fired at the victim from inside the car," IRNA quoted a police official as saying. "Since the shells of the two bullets were found in the car, most probably the attacker had been inside the car and talking to Mr. Rahmatabadi."
The official said there was no sign of any struggle at the scene.
No other details were immediately available.
It was not clear if the assailant escaped or was later apprehended. No group had claimed responsibility for the shooting.
