The 60s singer discovered that the two women were raped by Russian troops in Vienna at the end of World War II, as she traced her family roots on BBC show Who Do You Think You Are?.
She admitted that her dancer mum Eva developed a hatred of men, and subconsciously, this could have affected her own four-year romance with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, reported The Sun.
"Eva never got over it and always hated men and passed it on to me. She wouldn't even have realised it - it just happened," she said.
"The trauma and horror was life-long. It took until I was 50 to be in a relationship, to be in love and to not have to take drugs or drink to have sex."
Of her split with Mick, the 66-year-old said: "He loved me and I loved him, but something in me compelled me to just walk away. I don't really know why. I had to move on. It was very painful and very, very hard as I loved him. I think my mother - the way she was with this unspoken loathing of men - had a huge effect."
She added: "It was a big problem for me in the 60s, especially as I had to pretend everything was so wild and sexual and it really wasn't."
Marianne's visit to Vienna, Austria, will be documented in the episode, which will be shown on BBC One on September 18.
