College chant about underage sex has students apologizing

College chant about underage sex has students apologizing, A freshman orientation chant about non-consensual underage sex at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has students apologizing, they said.

"These are great leaders. This was simply a lack of judgment," said Jared Perry, president of the school's student orientation. "I definitely agree that's not appropriate. It's not tasteful, and I sincerely apologize to everyone who has been offended."

He added the chant had been used for years at freshman orientation.

The 15-second chant, posted on the Internet until it was taken down, spells out the word "young," and includes the lines, "Y is for your sister...U is for underage...N is for no consent...Saint Mary's boys, we like them young," the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Thursday.

"People are mad, People are upset. People are angry," said Steve Proctor, a school communications manager. "I really believe nobody who was actually doing the cheer believed in what it was."

The 80 freshman orientation leaders have been ordered to take sensitivity training, and school events scheduled on Wednesday evening were canceled so staff could meet with orientation leaders, the CBC said.
