The application for the permit said that there would be around 2,000 motorcyclists between 9 am and 4 pm. Carol Johnson, a spokeswoman for the NPS, said the bikers application was reviewed like all other similar applications.
Park services ultimately denied the permit, saying the group would simply cause too much disruption. She noted that major roadways would need to be closed and that the inconvenience to motorists was too much. Johnson said: “It’s just a case of what they asked for in the permit applications,” Belinda Bee, one of the main event organizers said that the bikers whole intention was not to block traffic and simply to “get in and out of D.C. as fast as possible.”
Bee had a phone call with one of the NPS permit assistants about the event. She said about her chat with the assistant: “She said it’s a weekday and the residents of D.C. would not like y’all very well.” The dcist website reports that the 2 million bikers to D.C. rally is in response to the Muslim Million March, as mentioned above. The march is apparently being organized by the American Muslim Political Action Committee, known to hold extreme views regarding the 9/11 attacks.
