Hakken abduction update: Sailboat with family spotted in Cuban marina

Hakken abduction update: Sailboat with family spotted in Cuban marina, The two missing Florida boys in the Hakken abduction are said to be in a boat off the coast of Cuba, authorities indicate. Josh and Sharyn Hakken forcibly took Chase and Cole from their grandparents' home, and authorities suspected they may be hiding on a boat. CNN shared the latest details on April 9, including their independent confirmation that the Hakken family is in Cuba.

Tuesday CNN spotted the boat suspected to have the Hakken family on it in a marina in Havana, Cuba. They approached the boat, and a man indicated that he was Josh Hakken. He did not want to answer questions, and then security arrived and told CNN to leave. CNN reports that they saw a woman who meets the description of Sharyn Hakken, and they confirm the man met the description shared of Josh Hakken as well. They add that a child was seen in the back of the sailboat.

The Hakken brothers were taken last Wednesday, after the boy's grandmother was tied up, allegedly by Josh Hakken. Chase and Cole had been removed from the care of their parents in 2012, and on April 2 a judge terminated their parental rights, giving permanent custody to the grandparents. The next day, the boys were taken and the family had been missing until now.

The extent to which the U.S. and Cuba are working together to resolve this potentially volatile situation seems somewhat hazy. At this point the boys are believed to be safe, but the family seems to be hunkered down on the boat in the marina now that they have been discovered.

Many worry that this could lead to a tragic ending for the missing Florida boys in the midst of the Hakken abduction. Many are relieved that Josh and Sharyn Hakken have been found, but Josh is considered to be armed and dangerous. Everybody is anxious for a positive ending ahead for Chase and Cole Hakken, and for now people are holding out hope the boys will be okay.
