Coming Back To TV?, Maybe it’s not easy being green, but this seems like a straight-forward way for ABC to earn some.
The Alphabet Network has green-lit the filming of footage for a potential pilot for a new “Muppets Show," centering around Jim Henson’s famous fuzzy critters. It’s time to get things started: the “proof of concept” would likely be showcased at May’s upfront presentations for advertisers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original “Muppet Show”ran on Britain’s ATV from 1976 to 1981 and in syndication on this side of the Pond. But the franchise has gained new popularity since the Jason Segel-scripted reboot hit theaters four years ago.
The new-look “Muppets” is purported to have a meta-feel, centering around Kermit and company’s meeting at ABC Studios to pitch a brand-new (what else?) Muppet show. But complications are afoot when Miss Piggy’s rocky relationship with her frog prince threatens to derail the series.
With the working title, “Muppets 2015,” the project will be executive produced by “The Big Bang Theory” co-creator Bill Prady and “Anger Management’s” Bob Kushell is attached as showrunner, Variety reported.
Prady is also co-writing the script.
Both The Muppets Studios and ABC are owned by the same parent company, Disney, making the series a natural fit.
