Tim Burton Dumbo

Tim Burton Dumbo , Tim Burton's hopping on the giant ears of an iconic elephant. Burton, who helmed a successful 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland for Disney, is reteaming with the studio for a remake of the 1941 animated classic Dumbo, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal and Mashable.

The original film followed a gentle cartoon animal ridiculed for the size of his ears, though they gave Dumbo the ability of flight. Details aren't known about the new version, though it's expected to feature a mix of live action and computer animation.

Disney has been on a tear of redoing their own memorable films of late. A new take on Cinderella starring Lily James is in theaters Friday, an updated The Jungle Book and the sequel Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass are expected next year, and Beauty and the Beast is currently in pre-production with a cast including Emma Watson, Dan Stevens and Luke Evans.

Burton's 2014 project Big Eyes garnered a Golden Globe for star Amy Adams, and the director's next movie is Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, an adaptation of the Ransom Riggs book that is in production now and scheduled to open March 4, 2016.
