Stephanie Sigman Becomes Mexico’s First Bond Girl, Why Is This Important?

Because Sigman is the first Mexican Bond girl in the franchise’s 50-year history.

Long Story Short

The producers of the new James Bond film Spectre have announced that Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman will play a character called Estrella in the hotly anticipated movie scheduled for release in November 2015.

Long Story

The anticipation for the 24th James Bond movie continues to grow and the addition of Stephanie Sigman will only pour fuel on the fire.
It was announced last October that French actress Lea Seydoux would be appearing alongside Monica Bellucci and Naomie Harris in Spectre and now the 28-year-old Sigman has been added to the mix, confirmed by the official 007 website and on Twitter.

Sigman played the lead role in Academy Awards nominated film Miss Bala in 2011 and has recently appeared in TV show The Bridge — a remake of a Scandinavian TV series. Born in Ciudad Obregon in the state of Sonora, she becomes Mexico’s first Bond girl. Nothing is yet known about the role she will be playing except that her character is called Estrella.

Spectre is expected to depict Bond’s childhood as an orphan. Director Sam Mendes told a behind the scenes Vlog on the 007 website that: “Spectre is a movie entirely driven by Bond. He is on a mission from the very beginning.”

When Bellucci was cast as the oldest Bond girl at 50, three years older than Daniel Craig, some eyebrows were raised, but it seems that the producers are playing safe with Sigman, 28, and Seydoux, 29 also ensuring a sprinkling of youth. Naomie Harris, 38, is also reprising the role of Eve Moneypenny.

Seydoux is widely expected to be Bond’s main love interest, but it remains to be seen whether Sigman will also win 007’s heart.
