Paula Patton split, Patton spoke to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America yesterday (March 6, 2015) about her high school sweetheart and ex, who she met at an under-21 club in 1991.
They married in 2005 and have a 4-year-old son, Julian, together.
On getting through her divorce from Thicke, she added, “I’m doing really well. I mean, the honest truth is it has been challenging, but it’s been a year of growth, lots of healing, learning about all new things, but I’ve come out of it stronger.”Patton also shared her gratitude for her son, saying, “The thing is you can’t wallow in sadness or stay in bed when you have a child. And they’re so full of life and wonder. And he brings me so much joy.”
Throughout the duration of their separation in 2014, Thicke very publicly tried to win Patton back several times while on tour for his album Paula.
At the time, it was speculated that Thicke was unfaithful, and then there was also that whole 2013 VMA’s fiasco with Miley Cyrus.
They had released a statement saying, “We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”Patton continued to tell GMA, “My son’s happy. And I’m very—you know, I feel like everything happens for a reason. And then you have to move on and grow from there.”
“The truth is it’s hard for me to say this because I don’t always do this, but it’s being grateful for what you have,” she said. “It’s so easy for us to focus on the negative things, but usually, the positive in your life outweighs that. And you have to just be thankful for what you have right now.”
The 39-year-old actress is now a brand ambassador for Ellen Tracy, saying “It’s purpose was not just to empower women but to celebrate women,” and calling the opportunity an “amazing blessing.”
Additionally, Patton has the lead in a new ABC pilot drama, “Runner.”
