New NYC Cafe Owner, Watch out, Starbucks — Martha Stewart is getting into the coffee shop business.
Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia announced Thursday the opening of the Martha Stewart Café, located in New York City’s Starrett-Lehigh building, which also happens to be the company’s headquarters.
The café’s menu was curated by the entertaining guru herself and includes coffee, tea and pastries.I am thrilled to open the Martha Stewart Café. It’s a place inspired by my world travels where anyone can come and enjoy a smooth, well-balanced, beautifully handcrafted cappuccino, latte, macchiato, or just plain Americano. In addition, you must try our artisanal teas — they are the finest available anywhere,” Stewart, 73, said in a statement.
Just in time for summer, the café will serve cold-brew iced coffee in addition to a custom “Martha’s Blend” coffee, a “Martha’s Breakfast Blend” tea and Stewart’s favorite espresso bean from Italy.
Stewart’s selected pastries will be sources from a handful of different bakeries, restaurants and chefs, including ChikaLicious, Baked, Bien Cuit and Balthazar. (So no Downton Abby cakes, sorry guys.)
The prices seem on par with those of other Manhattan coffee shops, with both espresso beverages and pastries staying at or below $5.
Stewart has talked about her desire to open a restaurant in the office building before. “There are 11,000 people who work in [the building] and no restaurant,” the entrepreneur told Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian during his Food Talk radio show at last year’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
We’re sure the residents of 601 W. 26th Street are excited by the opening — after all, one of the perks of working for Stewart should definitely be the ability to sip coffee called “Martha’s Blend.”
