Missouri teen sent home from school for dyeing hair bright red

Missouri teen sent home from school for dyeing hair bright red, A Missouri teenager was sent home after her school said she violated its dress code by dyeing her hair auburn.

The West St. Francois County School District prohibits students from having unnatural hair colors like blue or green -- and, as Savannah Keesee learned, red apparently falls under that category, as well.

The Irondale teen says her hair is simply red or auburn, as it says on the box.

“I just don’t think it’s right to get someone in trouble for expressing themselves,” Savannah told KMOV-TV. “I don’t want to cause any problems or anything, I just want to go back to school.”

The principal at West County High School confronted her in the lunch line on Monday and said her hair was too bright and even “orange," and sent her home.Savannah's bleach-blonde mom said she helped her daughter pick out the box of Garnier Fructis to make her latest fashion statement.

“She just wanted it a little bit different, ” her mother, Sheri Keesee, told KTVI-TV. "We had a bunch of snow days and did some girl stuff."

District Superintendent Stacy Stevens declined to comment on Savannah’s case, but said the policy has been in place for a long time and has always worked well for parents and students.

The school has asked Savannah to change her hair color, but she refuses, arguing that red really is a natural color. She and her mother plan to take it up with the school board.
