Jimmy Kempski of The Philly Voice noticed Bovada’s addition of a Mariota-to-Philly prop and wrote about it for the site on Thursday. (Other props included the final destination for Adrian Peterson and whether players such as DeMarco Murray and Ndamukong Suh will stay with their current teams.) The odds were 4/1 that Mariota would be on the roster (yes) and 1/7 that he wouldn’t be on the roster (no), suggesting the odds were slim, but still possible, of the Oregon bond reforging.
People were hitting the “yes” option so much that it was exposing Bovada to too much loss. The maximum a gambler can place on an NFL player prop is $500, which would have brought $2,000 to a winner on the Mariota-to-Eagles bet. So all it takes is, say, 200 maximum bets, to put Bovada on the line for $400,000. Those numbers are just for an example and unlikely, but you can see how easy it would be for things to get out of hand.
