Proud mother! Kym Marsh cheers on teenage daughter Emilie Cunliffe as she auditions for The Voice UK, She might be more famous for her role in Coronation Street, but Kym Marsh kicked off her career in the spotlight when she appeared on TV talent show Popstars, winning a place in pop group Hear'Say.

And now her daughter has followed in her footsteps, auditioning for a similar show over a decade later. Emilie Cunliffe, 17, was among the first crop of hopefuls to sing for judges Rita Ora, Ricky Wilson, will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones for the brand new series of the BBC show.

And her supportive mother was there in the wings, cheering her on as she showed off her vocal skills in order to launch her own pop career.

The 38-year-old soap star was joined by her fiancé Dan Hooper, who appeared just as anxious for the budding young singer to impress the coaches.

She sung a rendition of the song Clarity by EDM producer Zedd, while looking stunning in a little red dress.
Speaking to The Sun, Kym admitted she was a bag of nerves while watching her daughter’s audition at BBC studios in Manchester.

‘I was so nervous all day,’ she said. ‘We were just on eggshells. I couldn’t sleep the night before and I couldn’t eat. Emilie was nervous.’

The Coronation Street actress enjoyed her own brief taste of pop stardom with Hear’Say after appearing on defunct ITV talent show Popstars in 2000.

But while the show served as a launch-pad for Kym, she dismissed any notion of actively encouraging her teenage daughter to forge a similar path to pop stardom.

‘This has to be one hundred million percent her choice. She couldn’t be going into a show like this unless it was,’ she said.
On Saturday viewers will see Kym backstage with oldest child David Cunliffe, dad Dave and fiancé Dan Hooper while Emilie takes to the stage.

But despite her daughter’s celebrity roots, the actress says Emilie is determined to find fame without relying on her famous mum, adding: ‘She doesn’t like to mention me or my work.’

The teenager already has talent show experience having previously auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent at Manchester’s Lowry Theatre in 2014.

Elsewhere Kym recently she's on 'cloud nine' following Dan's shock proposal at a Manchester Hotel before the couple jetted off for a romantic weekend break in Amsterdam. She told OK! magazine: 'We’re both very excited, I didn’t have a clue he was going to pop the question.

'I just thought he was taking me away for a romantic weekend because I’d been so busy at work and I’d been stressed out because of (daughter) Polly’s operation to remove her tonsils.’

The personal trainer even took the old fashioned route before asking Kym to marry him. Dan asked my dad for my hand in marriage beforehand, which I thought was very sweet,’ she added.
