But William H.Macy bravely stripped off to his bathing shorts as he took to the beach on Wednesday to film more scenes for Shameless's fifth season.
The 64-year-old actor wore his light brown hair loose and sported patterned beach shorts and a few days of stubble to film the scenes, which seemed to involve him running towards the sea on the sandy beach.
Macy has played the single father of six since 2011 with the show making a star out of Emmy Rossum who plays his daughter Fiona.
The actor is back in the role of Frank after directing his first feature film Rudderless which opened last month and stars Billy Crudup as a grieving father who stumbles across a box of his recently deceased son’s demo tapes.
'We are sort of in the catbird seat on Rudderless, I think. And I'm dying to do it again,'he told Variety about taking his seat in the director's chair.
'In indie film, you are already four days behind when you start,' he said. 'I wound up with way more film than I needed. But it was a charmed experience. Three-quarters of it was exactly what I thought it would be in my head and the other was a complete surprise.'
“One of the benefits of doing this was that it charged me up because it was so difficult and frightening,” he noted. “So I have a brand new love for the industry because of having a bird’s eye view of the machinery.
'And the crew is so disparate, like a pickup baseball team - Republicans, Democrats, religious people, atheists, nice people - so it makes you love humanity.'
