Watch Evan Ross's New Music Video Featuring Mom Diana and Wife Ashlee Simpson, Every artist has their muse, and for Evan Ross, that muse is unequivocally his wife, Ashlee Simpson.
Though Diana Ross's youngest son is making his mark on film – he just starred in this fall's Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 – music is in his blood. And since marrying Simpson this past August, he says he's got a lot to sing about.
In his new song "How to Live Alone," premiering exclusively on PEOPLE, Ross sings passionately about everything from Simpson's hair to her lips, saying total solitude is better than being without the one he loves.
The whole album I'm doing right now has to do with love," Ross tells PEOPLE. "I just got married and that whole thing, and it definitely has to do with that and where I'm at in life."
In the video, Simpson makes a small cameo, embracing Ross while he's in the studio. But she's not the only important lady in his life to make an appearance.
"[My mom] comes into the studio and helps me," says Ross of the legendary Supremes singer. "She's so good at it, and she's been doing it so long. And she's such a perfectionist. Sometimes I'll be like, 'Let me have a few practices before she comes in to hear it.' "
When it comes to his mom, "a lot of people are like, 'That's Diana's son, what is he going to do?' There's always been a lot of pressure," says Ross. "But at the same time, you've got to do your own thing."
At least one person is already a major fan. "I'm pretty positive Ashlee enjoys my singing, at least most of the time," he says. "We sing together all the time, we're so close."
