"Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery. White's association with Green Day dates back to the early-Nineties, when the guitarist joined Billie Joe Armstrong's side project Pinhead Gunpowder. White first joined Green Day onstage in 1999 after being asked to accompany the band as their second guitarist when they toured in support of Warning. White remained a member on all subsequent tours, eventually becoming the lead guitarist when Green Day performs live.
With 2012's pop punk triptych ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre!, White was officially elevated to a fulltime member of Green Day, receiving his first studio album credit alongside Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool. In addition to performing with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-nominated band, White also played guitar for the group's two pseudonym side projects Foxboro Hot Tubs and the Network.
