Florida police officer shot dead; suspect in custody, A police officer was shot and killed early Sunday in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. at an apartment complex on Grand Boulevard in Tarpon Springs, about 25 miles from Tampa. Police were originally called for a noise ordinance complaint with a suspect banging on residential doors. When police arrived the suspect shot one of the officers and then attempted to flee in a vehicle but crashed his car into a pole and then a vehicle.
Police caught up with the suspect and he is now in custody.
A news conference will be held later this morning to provide further details.
