Ben Cohen’s broken wife: Abigail spends first Christmas alone after teenage romance was soured by Strictly, On the evening before Christmas Eve, when most of us were excitedly gearing up for the festive season, Ben Cohen’s estranged wife couldn’t hide her pain.
Abigail, who split from the Strictly Come Dancing star in September, tweeted: "Don't want to get up!! feeling very broken today."
The 36-year-old later deleted the message as she prepared to spend her first Christmas without the hunky rugby star.
According to friends of Abby, her latest anguish is down to the reports last weekend that that Kristina Rihanoff was suicidal after being blamed for the break-up.
One pal said: "It has been a terrible time for Abigail and now she has to read this stuff she is coming out with saying how bad it has all been for her.
"Abigail is the one who has suffered over this and she's the one people should sympathise with."
Abby's worried mum Felicity Blayney-Bassouls said: "I feel so sad for her. The pain and hurt she is going through must be horrific. But I would never want her to stay with a husband who may not love her."
We take a look back at their romance which came rumbling to an end following his stint on the BBC dance show...Ben Cohen was just 17 when he met his wife to be Abby Blayney in 1995.
At the time he was working at the Northampton Warehouse and was on the cusp of becoming a rugby star.
The teenagers quickly fell head over heels and married in 2003 before going on to have twin daughters Harriette and Isabelle in 2008.
Over the next ten years or so Ben went on to have a prolific career in rugby, taking a brief break in 2007 ruling himself out of both England's summer tour and the World Cup, because he wished to spend time with his pregnant wife.
It is unclear what his wife was doing career wise at this time, however she is known for being a love of the outdoors and in particular enjoys horseriding.Their relationship first came under public scrutiny in 2008 when Abby’s mother Felicity Blayney claimed Ben “had driven her to despair” and “refused to return her phonecalls or see her granddaughters.”
In an interview with the Daily Mail at the time she claimed she was asked to move into the couples estate to help look after the children.
She said at the time: "When I got to their house I was given one room to live in with my 14-year-old Persian cat, Jilly. Ben and Abby treated me and my cat like we were in prison - they were so disrespectful. Ben issued me with a set of rules - he thought he was Lord of the Manor.
"When Abby saw how miserable I was she got upset, so Ben asked me to leave the house until the babies were born. He told me he'd drag me out by my hair if he had to. Ben made me feel worthless. I started to wonder if my life was worth it - I was so down."
At the time Ben refuted the comments, saying: “This has come totally out of the blue.
"Felicity is welcome to see the children any time she likes. I think Ryanair flights cost about £1, but if money is an issue I am happy to pay costs. I don't know what else to say."
Their relationship came under the spotlight once again when he appeared on Strictly and was seen getting up close and personal with dance partner Kristina.
Last September she told how she invited Ben’s wife to watch them dance. Kristina said: “I invited her along to rehearsal. I told her ‘You’re more than welcome to come at any time, with the kids.’
“I don’t want her to feel threatened by me, I want to make sure she is there for the both of us.”
But in October Ben then told how his wife caught him twerking with Kristina.
He said: “Partners have to be very understanding. I had a moment in training when Abby walked in.”
Gyrating his hips, he added: “I was doing this to the back end of Kristina. It was a bit awkward and my wife said: ‘I think I’ll come back in a minute’.
“It can be a bit challenging sometimes but she is a good girl and understands the spirit of the show.”
Over the last year Abby has been continually retweeting various tweets which could hint at an underlying concern she had.
On July 6 she retweeted a message from Life Facts that read: “Appreciate those who love you. Help those who need you. Forgive those who hurt you. Forget those who leave you.”
Just over ten days later, after supporting Ben when he took part on the Cube, she retweeted another tweet that said: “You don't give up on someone you love.”
The next day her tweet suggest that Ben was absent as she wrote: “Omg worst thunder storm ever!! Missed @RugbyBenCohen to look after us all.”
On August 4 she retweeted: “You might not get over it, but you'll get through it.On September 17 a statement was released on behalf of the couple.
It read: “Ben and Abby Cohen have agreed to take time apart to deal with some marital issues but remain fully committed to the welfare of their children. There is no third party involved, and Ben and Abby now ask that their privacy and that of their family be respected at this difficult time.”
In early Decemeber it emerged Ben and Abby, who have twin girls Harriette and Isabelle, had put their £1.85million Northamptonshire home on the market.
