Adrian Peterson seriously considered retiring during his suspension, Adrian Peterson’s appeal of league suspension for a violation of the NFL’s conduct policy was denied on Friday afternoon. The former NFL MVP hasn’t played football since Week 1 after being charged with child abuse in Texas.
On November 4, Peterson pleaded no contest no misdemeanor reckless assault and avoided jail time, but on November 18, he was suspended without pay for the rest of the 2014-15 season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and won’t be considered for reinstatement until April 15.
Peterson claims he’s “been made an example of,” and in his disappointment with the NFL’s disciplinary process, he’s considered retiring, according to a report by Ben Goessling of ESPN.
“I’ve considered retiring from the NFL,” Peterson said. “I still made $8 million dollars this year. I’ve thought about getting back into the real estate (business in Texas) I’m already in. That’s something I’ve been interested in, something I’m involved in. I’ve thought about getting back into that.”
It isn’t so ridiculous to think about. Peterson didn’t have the greatest 2013-14 season and was already in decline after a MVP year in 2012. Running backs don’t have the most longevity in this league anyway, and Peterson will be 30 years old before he touches a football competitively again.
But Peterson just said he thought about retiring. When asked by Goessling if he’d pursue legal action, Peterson said “Of course.”
