Thousands of People are Calling for TLC to Cancel "19 Kids and Counting", More than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling for TLC to yank the reality show 19 Kids and Counting from the air because they believe the show's stars advocate discrimination against LGBT people.
The Duggars have been using their fame to promote discrimination, hate, and fear-mongering against gays and transgendered people," the petition reads. "You need to take a stand on the side of justice and cancel their show."
The Change.org petition, started by Jim Wissick of San Jose, California, calls out matriarch Michelle Duggar for participating in a robocall campaign against a bill that combats discrimination against LGBT residents in her home state of Arkansas. (The bill has since passed, but, according to The Advocate, the Duggars are now funding a campaign to repeal it.)
In the robocall, Michelle Duggar specifically attacks transgender individuals, saying the bill "would allow men — yes, I said men — to use women's and girls' restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only," and that some of them would be "males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female."
This isn't the first time the Duggars have come under fire for anti-LGBT sentiment. Just last week, Jim Bob and Michelle were accused of deleting gay couples' photos from their "kissing challenge" on Facebook. Plus, eldest son Josh works for the Family Research Council, a Christian lobbying organization that is anti-gay marriage.
But not everyone wants the show to go off the air. A competing Change.org petition, started today, has already counted more than 2,000 signatures to keep the show on the air. "Everyone should be entitled to free speech and their own beliefs," the petition reads.
