Stars married to regular people, Not every celeb meets their other half on set. Let’s take a look at some of the famous actors, authors, politicians and sports stars who’ve said “I do” to non-celebrities.
George Clooney
If you haven’t heard the news that notorious bachelor George Clooney has gotten hitched, then you must have been hiding from all sources of media for the past two months! It’s true — the man who once said he’d never marry ate his words on September 27th when he said “I do” to a 36-year-old British-Lebanese lawyer. Their celebrity-heavy nuptials in Venice, Italy made headlines across the globe (see pics of their wedding extravaganza).
JULIANNA MARGULIES
Currently starring on "The Good Wife" (watch clips), Julianna Margulies has been gracing our television screens since the early '90s, most notably in NBC’s "ER." The stability of the actress' personal life reflects the solidity of her career. She met her husband-to-be at a friend’s dinner party and married the lawyer (and son of this well-known academic) in 2007. They have one son together.
J.K. ROWLING
Since her catapult to crazy stardom with the release of the first "Harry Potter" book in 1997, J.K. Rowling has been known for trying to stay out of the spotlight. So it makes perfect sense the author married this non-celeb (what does he do for a living?). They married in 2001, at the former-single mom’s house in Scotland, and have since added a son to their family.
ANNE HATHAWAY
With all the hooplah surrounding her last relationship, it’s no surprise Anne Hathaway went for somebody a little more low-key this time. The Oscar-winner's husband is an actor and producer but certainly likes to lead more of a 'normal guy' lifestyle. The two lovebirds met through mutual friends and tied the knot in 2012.
PAUL MCCARTNEY
One of the most celebrated musicians of all time, Paul McCartney (watch his videos) has a notable personal life as well. The former Beatle was married to Linda Eastman for nearly 30 years before her untimely death in 1998, followed by a somewhat stormy marriage to this model-turned-activist from 2002 to 2008, and finally a marriage to a former Metropolitan Transit Authority board member in 2011. Let's hope third time's a charm for Sir Paul!
MERYL STREEP
65-year-old Meryl Streep (see photos) has been in the biz since the ‘70s and married since then as well! The veteran actress (what's she doing now?) married a Yale School of Art grad in 1978. Her hubby is a well-known sculptor who works with bronze, stainless steel, aluminum and stained glass. Streep and her artist beau have four children together.
PRINCE WILLIAM
She's quite famous now, but Prince William’s other half, now known as the Duchess of Cambridge, certainly wasn’t back in 2001 when they met. The pair became acquainted as college students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and started dating in 2003. The world watched as they married in 2011 (watch clips), had a son in 2013 and are now celebrating some more big news.
MATT DAMON
After dating a couple of actresses, Matt Damon met this Argentine bartender in Miami in 2003 and the two have been at each other’s sides every since. They said "I do" in 2005, at the Manhattan Marriage Bureau. She is a constant fixture at Damon’s red carpet events (see photos) and the pair have a beautiful family of girls — her daughter Alexia from a previous relationship and three more daughters of their own.
ALEC BALDWIN
Comedic actor Alec Baldwin tried marriage to another celebrity but ended up divorcing in 2002. For his second marriage, the "30 Rock" star (watch clips) found a 'regular gal' bride in this yoga instructor. Baldwin had given her his number after they had chatted for awhile at a New York eatery. His future bride says she debated about whether to call him or not but, after some encouragement from a friend, decided to do so. Their 26-year age difference may have raised a few eyebrows but the two have been happily married since 2011 and welcomed a daughter in August of last year.
ELI MANNING
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning (see photos) met his wife when they were both college students at this southern university. They tied the knot in Mexico in 2008 and have two young daughters together. The college sweethearts live with their girls in Hoboken, New Jersey and are known around town as a very nice, easy-going couple.
CYNTHIA NIXON
Former "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon (watch clips of her on the show) has been in two long-term relationships with non-celebs. The first was with teacher Danny Mozes, with whom she shares two kids. Her next was with a female education activist, whom she later married. Playing down the switch in partners, Nixon famously said this about her bisexuality. They tied the knot in New York in 2012 and the two share a son together.
CONAN O'BRIEN
Late-night host Conan O'Brien meets his fair share of celebs, but it was a 'regular' gal who caught — and kept — his eye. The ad executive (where'd she work?) met O’Brien in 2000, when she appeared in an advertising skit on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," and the two married a couple years later. They have two children together (see photos of the whole family).
JON BON JOVI
Jon Bon Jovi’s relationship with his 'regular' gal goes back years. The two met in a high school history class (see how he looked back then) and, despite reportedly breaking up over the rocker’s relationship with this well-known actress in the ‘80s, he went on to marry his childhood sweetheart in 1989. They tied the knot at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas and celebrated their 25th anniversary earlier this year. The two share four kids together.
TINA FEY
Actress and comedienne Tina Fey met her husband-to-be when they were both a part of this improv group in Chicago (watch her back then) in the mid ‘90s. A relatively unknown piano player at the time, he’s gone on to compose music for "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock," proving that the couple that works together, stays together! The two tied the knot in a Greek Orthodox ceremony in 2001 and have two daughters together.
DAN BROWN
Author Dan Brown has written a number of bestselling books, including "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels & Demons." His thrilling adventure novels, full of twists and turns, have sold millions of copies across the globe. Brown’s wife, who met the future-bestselling author when she was a director at the National Academy of Songwriters and he was trying to get a pop career off the ground, has been with him through it all. She helped promote his work and the pair even wrote a book together. They married in 1997 and are still going strong today.
LEBRON JAMES
LeBron James may be one of the most decorated professional basketball players of all time (how many times has he been named NBA’s Most Valuable Player?), but he’s a hometown guy at heart. The Cleveland Cavaliers star married his high school sweetheart in September 2013 (see photos of the pair) and the duo welcomed their third child, a daughter named Zhuri, in October of this year.
JULIE BOWEN
"Modern Family" mom Julie Bowen (watch clips of her on the show) has a beautiful family both on and off the set. She married this real estate investor and software developer back in 2004 and the pair have three sons together — a 7-year-old and 5-year-old twins (see photos of the whole fam). Bowen’s praised her hubby in the past, saying he balances out her anxiety with his calm demeanor.
SARAH PALIN
The world may know him now, but politician Sarah Palin’s husband was just a regular guy when they met — in high school. The outdoorsman (what snowmobiling race has he won four times?) is known for being hardworking, with previous jobs in commercial fishing and the oil industry. The Palins have five children together and, despite the odd family scandal or two (what allegedly happened in September?), they seem to have a pretty solid relationship.
PATRICK DEMPSEY
"Grey’s Anatomy" hunk Patrick Dempsey actually has a pretty interesting relationship history. When he was 21, the actor married his best friend’s mom, manager Rocky Parker (see photos of the pair). Their hefty age difference eventually proved too much, however, and they divorced in 1994. Dempsey met his second, and current, wife at her hair salon and tied the knot five years later. They have three children together.
TOBEY MAGUIRE
She’s got quite a popular jewelry line now, but when they first met, Tobey Maguire's future wife was just his boss’s daughter. Maguire was shooting this 2003 horse racing film when he met the daughter of former chief of Universal Studios Ronald Meyer. The pair dated for a few years before marrying in Hawaii in 2007. They share a daughter, Ruby, and son, Otis, together (see photos of the young family).
ALBERT PUJOLS
Los Angeles Angels star and former Rookie of the Year Albert Pujols has had an incredible career in baseball. The Dominican-American celebrated his 500th home run earlier this year (watch a clip), a feat his wife of 14 years is sure to be proud of. The duo work as a team and even started the Pujols Family Foundation together. The not-for-profit agency helps families with children with Down syndrome, a condition one of their children was born with.
VINCE VAUGHN
He seemed like he was destined to live the bachelor lifestyle forever, but actor Vince Vaughn finally found love with a Canadian real estate agent in 2009, a few years after dating this well-known actress. Vaughn and his lady love got engaged in March 2009, married in January 2010, had their first child, a daughter, in December 2010 and their second, a son, in August 2013 (see photos of the fam). Guess when you know, you know!
JESSE TYLER FERGUSON
Wonder if his beau gives him tips on how to act? "Modern Family" star Jesse Tyler Ferguson plays a lawyer on the hit sitcom (watch clips) and married one in real-life on July 20, 2013 in New York. Ferguson reportedly met his other half at the gym and they dated for two years before making it official. In lieu of wedding gifts, they asked their guests to donate to the marriage equality charity they founded together.
KELSEY GRAMMER
Former "Cheers" and "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer has had a long acting career and quite a lengthy series of relationships as well. He’s been married four times and has a total of six children and one grandchild. Grammer’s current wife is a former flight attendant (see photos). The two faced scrutiny from the public and Grammer’s famous ex-wife for starting a relationship when the actor was still married.
CLINT DEMPSEY
Professional soccer player Clint Dempsey (which team does he play for now?) reportedly met his future wife when the two were students at Furman University, in South Carolina. The part-time rapper (watch videos) tied the knot with his other half in 2007 and they’ve since added two girls and a boy to their family.
ALISON SWEENEY
Alison Sweeney married her California highway patrolman beau — and childhood sweetheart — in 2000, after dating for three years. The actress-turned-reality-TV-host (watch clips) and her husband have two children together, a son born in 2005 and daughter born in 2009 (see photos of the family).
