Saudi Husband Divorce

Saudi Husband Divorce, A Saudi husband had a message for his bride of only a few hours: ‘I want a divorce.’ The reason? This Saudi groom got his first look at the face of his wife, which had been kept covered throughout the ceremony of the arranged marriage. When the veil was lifted at the request of the photographer, the hubby got first glance – and did not like what he saw.

Writes the Inquisitr on Nov. 17: “When it was time for the bride to lift up her veil, it wasn’t for a kiss; the photographer requested that she reveal her face. He wanted to snap a picture of the happy bride and groom after they exchanged their vows. Apparently, things went from bad to worse at that point. As the bride began to smile for the picture, the groom protested in disgust… Wedding guests tried to calm down the bride and groom, but the damage was done. The bride was reportedly in a fit of tears — even collapsing from the trauma of her husband rejecting her on such a shallow level.”

The wedding and instantaneous divorce occurred in the western Saudi town of Medinah, according to the Huff Post UK. When he lifted up his wife’s veil, he reportedly told her: “You are not the girl I had imagined. I am sorry, but I divorce you.”

The arranged marriage – common in parts of southern and eastern Asia, Africa and the Middle East – differs from a forced marriage, one in which the spouse’s are coerced into marriage under duress. Although both the groom and spouse had agreed to the union, the Saudi man reportedly was disheartened when he saw that his wife was not attractive, jilting her and leaving both families in shame.

“The groom said he had not been able to see his bride's face before marriage,” says the HuffPost, citing a translated Saudi media outlet. “When he divorced her, the bride collapsed and the wedding turned into a night of tears.”

While the story lacks names and has not been independently verified, a number of Middle Eastern news channels have picked up the bizarre tale. Gulf News has branded the U-turning Saudi groom “totally irresponsible” and “utterly insensitive.” Al Bawabi carried the story and posts from commenters. “He caused her great pain through his irresponsible attitude, and he deserves to suffer,” Afra wrote. “He should appreciate that beauty is in the character, not the face. Unfortunately, many young people today are interested only in looks and ignore values and morals. May God give her a better husband who will appreciate her for who and what she is.”

Your thoughts? Should this Saudi husband be given a reprieve for the impulsive divorce of his never-before-seen wife?
