Saint Mary Magdalene

Saint Mary Magdalene, The College of Saint Mary Magdalen, in Warner, N.H., recently announced that it will extend its “Free Room and Board Initiative” to students enrolling in 2015. The Initiative, which began in April 2014, grants free room and board to freshman and transfer students.

"The success of the Free Room and Board Initiative and the quality of the students who have enrolled this year as a result has prompted the College to extend the initiative for another recruiting cycle," College President Dr. George Harne said in a news release.

Tuition rates in the United States have continued to increase dramatically, the College said in the release. In contrast, Magdalen “hopes to make a true liberal arts education accessible to students who may not have been otherwise able to afford it.” The extension of the Free Room and Board Initiative continues Magdalen’s goal to make “a faithful Catholic education more affordable to prospective students,” reported the College.

President Harne also recently spoke on how faithful Catholic universities are “becoming stronger, better known, more recognizable [and] more easily distinguished” from other less faithful Catholic institutions, The Cardinal Newman Society reported.

The College of Saint Mary Magdalen is recommended in The Newman Guide for its strong Catholic identity. The Cardinal Newman Society released the 2015 edition of the Guide last week along with an innovative new “Recruit Me” program that lets students sign up so the recommended Catholic colleges can compete for them.
