Jack in the box

Jack in the box, A man who had been expected to pick up his final paycheck at a Jack in the Box in Pleasanton was instead arrested for allegedly robbing the fast-food restaurant, police said.

Courtney Townsel, 19, of Pleasanton was wearing a red hockey mask when he jumped the front counter at the restaurant at 4295 Valley Ave. about 10:20 p.m. Thursday, said police Sgt. Michael Tryphonas.

Townsel pushed an employee to the floor and ran to an office, where he grabbed a small stack of bills from a cash tray and fled, Tryphonas said.

He allegedly ran into an apartment complex, where he shed some his clothes and a pair of gloves, police said. Officers who were called to the scene set up a perimeter and found a car with three people inside, including Townsel, trying to leave the complex, Tryphonas said.

Police recovered the stolen money. Townsel used to work at the restaurant and was “going to be going in to pick up his last check,” Tryphonas said.

Instead, officers booked him on suspicion of robbery at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
