IS Suicide Bombers Target Syrian Border Town of Kobani, The Islamic State group attacked the Syrian-Kurdish border town of Kobani on Saturday, with reports saying they may have launched the assault from Turkey -- a first in the ongoing siege on the heavily contested town.
Kurdish officials and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights say the attack began with a suicide blast at a border crossing between Turkey and Kobani, followed by other suicide bombings.
Turkish officials did not confirm that any of the attacks were launched from Turkey.
Fierce clashes broke out between Kurdish and IS fighters after the Islamic State suicide bombers blew themselves up in Kobani. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says at least 25 fighters were killed in the clashes, most of them Islamic State jihadists.
Kurdish fighters have been battling for more than two months to hold off Islamic State fighters trying to take over Kobani. The U.S.-led coalition is carrying out air strikes aimed at halting the advance of the Islamists.
