Health and Human Services, Kendra Gerlach, former public relations manager at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, started work Monday as director of the office of communications at the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
Gerlach replaces Ricky Diaz, the 24-year-old who resigned in January. She will earn $110,000 per year.
Gerlach worked for the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce in 2000 and 2001 and then worked for NHRMC through 2007. Since then, she has worked in marketing for Atlanta Medical Center and Emory Healthcare.
