Diane Lane's SECRETARIAT Back, Clint Eastwood's HEREAFTER Gone:Top Five, Saw 3D was the no. 1 movie at the North American box office chart for the last time — no doubt about it — on Thursday, Nov. 4, bringing in $1.22 million according to figures found at Box Office Mojo.
As per various weekend box office predictions, Saw 3D is expected to go way, way down this weekend, after losing out many of its 3D locations to Dreamworks/Paramount's Megamind, the likely box office champion of the fall season.
Also ahead of Saw 3D will be Todd Phillips' poorly received R-rated comedy Due Date, starring Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis, and Tyler Perry's drama (not a typo) For Colored Girls, with Janet Jackson and Whoopi Goldberg, among other actresses.
In the Saw 3D cast: Tobin Bell, Cary Elwes, Betsy Russell, Sean Patrick Flanery, Chad Donella, and Costas Mandylor.
At no. 2, Robert Schwentke's Red, starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, and Morgan Freeman, which has been bouncing back and forth across the $1m-per-day line, collected $1.07m.
Johnny Knoxville's Jackass 3D pulled in $954k in third place, while Tod Williams' Paranormal Activity 2 scored $891k on the fourth spot.
Up one spot, Diane Lane's horse-racing drama Secretariat earned $595k at no. 5 — back among the top five for one single day. It was followed by Clint Eastwood's Hereafter, featuring Matt Damon, Cécile De France, and Bryce Dallas Howard, down one spot with $584k at no. 6.
Next in line were David Fincher-Jesse Eisenberg-Justin Timberlake's The Social Network with $501k at no. 7 and the Katherine Heigl-Josh Duhamel-Josh Lucas comedy Life As We Know It with $485k at no. 8.
Rounding out the top twelve were Ben Affleck-Jeremy Renner-Jon Hamm's The Town with $250k, Hilary Swank-Tony Goldwyn-Sam Rockwell's Conviction with $190k, Zack Snyder's Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole with $169k, Davis Guggenheim's Waiting for 'Superman,' with $113k.
Among the top-twelve movies, Saw 3D was the only one to post attendance losses on Thursday, a minor -3 percent. Following a steep (nearly 2/3) drop on Wednesday, Legend of the Guardians posted the highest Thursday attendance gains, +39.4 percent.
Also among the top twelve, Saw 3D had the highest per-theater average, an unimpressive $437. Legend of the Guardians had the lowest, $84.
