Arrow’s Stephen Amell Was Unhappy With Flash Movie Reveal, Arrow star Stephen Amell isn’t too happy with how the rollout of Warner Bros. movie plans rained on the parade of his fellow TV super hero Grant Gustin, who plays the title character on CW’s Flash.
“I thought that the way Warner Bros. announced the slate of DC movies could have been handled better,” said Amell in an interview with AMC’s Movie Talk.
The day after the second episode of Flash’s freshman season aired, Warner Bros, whose TV arm produces both Arrow and Flash, announced a flurry of movies news that included plans to have Perks of Being a Wallflower star Ezra Miller helm a Flash movie in 2018.
“I think someone like Grant Gustin, who has just launched an iconic character like Flash, to record breaking numbers … should have been given a wider berth than two episodes before another actor was announced to play his character,” Amell said. “I thought it was shitty that all of this stuff got announced the morning that the ratings — the spectacular ratings — of the second episode of the Flash came in.”
At the time of the announcement, fans of Gustin’s character, who made his debut in a 2013 episode of Arrow, vocally disapproved of both the timing and, in some cases, the casting itself.
“All that being said,” Amell added, “everyone wants to judge things immediately. The plan that Warner Bros. [and DC have] — and it’s a wonderful plan overall — for the introduction of the Justice League of America and all these standalone films is going to take place over 5, 6, 7 years. Whose to say what’s going to happen.”
In a world where Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is connecting their platforms in a way fans have never seen before, it really does seem odd that DC is so set on keeping their television and film separate. What are your thoughts on the film versus television incarnations of the Flash?
In related news to the two superheroes, it is the cross-over event fans have all been waiting for ever since ‘The Flash’ premiered this fall. And not only is it a single cross-over, its actually double as team Arrow will visit ‘The Flash’ first on Tuesday December 2nd, followed promptly by team Flash visiting ‘Arrow’ on December 3rd.
And even more exciting than seeing the two amazing CW superheroes collide, are the classic (but still crazy) villains chosen to headline the episodes. On ‘The Flash,’ team Arrow comes to town to look into a case involving a boomerang (why hello Captain Boomerang), and Barry asks for their help in hunting down a metahuman with the ability to alter a person’s emotions, aka Ray Bivolo, aka the Rainbow Raider. Seems the cross-over on ‘The Flash’ will have Barry get affected by Bivolo, leading to an Arrow/Flash showdown. And then back on ‘Arrow,’ Barry comes to town to help deal with an A.R.G.U.S. plot and Captain Boomerang, using his super-speed to help defuse bombs scattered around the city.
