Anderson Cooper Christmas party: Host cancels staff party after on-air prank

Anderson Cooper Christmas party: Host cancels staff party after on-air prank, Anderson Cooper's Christmas party has been canceled. The host jokingly canceled the holiday bash on his Friday night broadcast because of a prank his staff played on him earlier during the week. His revenge was to cancel the bash planned at his New York City home set for some point during the holiday season. The Inquisitr reported on Anderson Cooper's revenge prank on Nov. 16.

What prank prompted Cooper's Christmas party cancellation? On his Monday night broadcast, the CNN host was pranked by his staff during his "The Ridiculist" segment. The staff poked fun at Anderson's love for basil-scented candles. The host has placed the scented candled in his office to help promote a pleasant work environment. However, his staff hated the scent of the candle, and they decided to tell him about that dislike on air. Cooper did not find out that his candle was the subject of the segment for that night's broadcast. His staff compared his basil candle to a long list of foul smelling items. Anderson read off that list on air:

"Grandma’s house, old mall, Italian salad, Woodstock vomit, garden gnome’s underwear drawer, dumpster ravioli, Mario Batali’s crocs, herb garden growing in a landfill and a brothel in Tuscany."

Mario Batali is one of the hosts on ABC's "The Chew." Cooper actually defended the host after he was included in the list. The staff compared the crocs worn by Mario Batali to the foul smelling candle. However, the comparison did not offend Batali. In fact, he played along with the huge prank. He talked about the prank during a segment of the ABC talk show, and he even offered to send his shoe to Cooper. The CNN host had a reaction to that on air as well. Cooper revealed that his staff did receive one of Batali's shoes for comparison to the candle. Cooper had his own plans for the shoe though. He said the following, according to Medialite:

"I will burn that Croc in the middle of the newsroom, and you people will rue the day you ever spoke ill of my candle. That will be the sweet smell of revenge."

It is clear that the "AC360" host has a sense of humor. He had invited all of his staff to his holiday party on the day of the prank, and the party is still scheduled to happen. He just joked about the cancellation on air. He said that he planned to light all the candles in his home during the night of the party, but since his staff hate the scent he could not do that.

Anderson Cooper was not joking last month when he shamed a reported at a shooting site in Ottawa, Canada, according to The Huffington Post. Vandon Gene asked Cooper for a photo during a break from filming, and Cooper denied the man's request. He considered it "inappropriate." The denial led to a verbal battle on Twitter. The tweets have since be deleted, and Gene apologized for his actions. However, he did not direct his apology to Anderson Cooper.
