Sarah Hyland Silence Prokop, SARAH Hyland has opened up for the first time after she split from her abusive ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop.
The Modern Family star – who broke up with Matt after their five-year relationship – quoted two poets during an interview on The Meredith Vieira show.
There are two quotes that I wanna say," Sarah, 23, told Meredith, who was also the victim of domestic violence in her early twenties.
"One is a Dylan Thomas poem: 'Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,' which is one of my favorite poems."
"It just strikes a chord in me," she added.
Sarah also cited Robert Frost's quote "The only way out is through".According to reports, the pretty actress – who plays Haley Dunphy in the hit comedy show – was "terrorised" verbally and physically by Matt.
TMZ obtained court docs filed by the 23-year-old, which refer to a time when she was "pinned against a car during an argument about her outfit back in May".
She said: "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life."
Following the split, Matt refused to leave Sarah alone. She continued: "He relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats."
She has been granted a restraining order to protect herself and her dog Barkley Bixby, who he reportedly threatened to harm.
