Rachel frederickson gains back 20 lbs, Nearly two months after The Biggest Loser’s last season winner Rachel Frederickson won the show with a dramatic weight loss of 155 pounds, the 24-year-old has gained back 20 pounds.
Frederickson told US Weekly this week that the viewers’ horror at her weight loss “started a discussion about body image,” which the Biggest Loser winner called “a gift.”
“That’s huge,” she told the magazine. Now that she’s up to 125 pounds, Frederickson feels that she’s at her “perfect weight”.
The 5-foot-4, 24-year-old Frederickson dropped from 260 pounds to 105 under the show’s rigorous exercise and diet regimen — but also time spent on her own before the Feb. 5 finale. She was a three-time state champion swimmer at Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota, and said she turned to sweets for solace after a failed romance and gained the weight over several years.
But her massive weight loss sparked criticism online and from experts, who suggested Frederickson’s new weight wasn’t healthy – and that the loss was too much, too quick.Jillian Lampert, senior director of the Emily Program, an eating disorder treatment program based in St. Paul, Minn., said after The Biggest Loser finale that Frederickson’s body mass index would be considered below normal, but noted the criticism directed against Frederickson isn’t helpful.
“As a society we often criticize people for being at higher weights — that’s part of why we have the TV show The Biggest Loser — and then we feel free to criticize lower weight,” Lampert said.
The Biggest Loser is a reality-television show where overweight participants compete to see who can lose the largest percentage of their bodt weight. The contestants work out for hours every day, and change their diets dramatically.
The show is currently casting for their 16th season.
