Christina Ricci to return as Lizzie Borden in miniseries, Actress Christina Ricci will return to television next year as Fall River’s Lizzie Borden . Lifetime — which aired its film “Lizzie Borden Took an Ax” in January — has announced that it will continue the local story with the miniseries “Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles.”
Kenneth Fiola, executive vice president of the Fall River Office of Economic Development, believes the miniseries will be good for the city. When the Lifetime movie aired, bars hosted viewing parties. The city’s tourism has always benefited from Hollywood’s obsession Lizzie Borden, he said. “They come into the city constantly,” Fiola said, of history buffs who stay at Borden’s house, which is now an inn.
Fiola did watch the Lifetime movie in January; he says he checks out all interpretations of the 1892 unsolved murder case. “I thought they concentrated more on the character than the city itself,” he said of Lifetime’s take. For the record, Fiola’s favorite Lizzie Borden movie is 1975’s “The Legend of Lizzie Borden,” which starred Elizabeth Montgomery (“Bewitched”) as Lizzie and “Who’s the Boss?” actress Katherine Helmond as her sister Emma, a role played by “Argo” actress Clea DuVall in the Lifetime story. “That was a little more true to the characters and true to the story.”
