Smell of cow dung reminds me of home - One Direction star Niall Horan, Jet-setting One Direction superstar Niall Horan has said Ireland is ‘100pc home’ but it’s not even Barry’s Tea, Tayto crisps or even rain-soaked Midlands towns that let him he know he’s back, instead it’s the distinctly rural smell of cow dung.
The 20-year-old has insisted home is where his heart is despite his global superstardom, adding that it’s the aromas of agriculture en route to Mullingar that assures him he is heading for home.
Niall, who lives in London, said he rarely gets to spend time at home thanks to his globetrotting job.
And he revealed; “When I get off the plane and it smells like cow poo I know I’m home. Ireland (still) is 100pc (home).”
The Irish member of the biggest boyband on the planet insists he hasn’t allowed all the hype to get to his head, despite the global superstars being predicted to become the most successful boyband in the world with earnings of a billion dollars a year.
It is estimated the band will earn the record almost €750m amount during their upcoming ‘Where We Are’ tour.
The 88-date tour will see the boys – Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik – become the first act to perform three consecutive nights at the 95,000-seat Rose Bowl stadium in California.
But in an interview with Top of the Pops magazine Niall laughed off pronouncements that One Direction have a billion dollars in the bank.
“I read that too. If people are hiding money from us in offshore bank accounts than I want to know about it,” he joked.
The band, which was created on X Factor in 2010, have shot to an extraordinary level of fame since their first audition four years ago.
And the Westmeath heartthrob said he still gets nervous when his band returns to the ITV show as guests.
He said; “When we were guests on the X Factor honest to God, it was the most nerve-wracking thing.”
