Take two ugly sweaters, one classic 1980s school photo portrait style, and add a cat.
The actress posted a photo to Instagram this week, showing her best awkward Christmas style. In the photo, her boyfriend Sal Sanchez (sporting a cheesy mustache) sits next to her on a couch while Mena cuddles her cat. Floating about the smiling couple is a close-up of the cat. To make it even more over the top, Mena and Sal are wearing matching sweaters featuring nutcracker embroidery.
It seems like Mena Suvari may be trying to give Kelly Clarkson a run for her money. This week the former American Idol winner tweeted her own awkward Christmas photo, a family style picture with her husband, Brandon Blackstock, and stepchildren Savannah and Seth.
Mena Suvari and Sal Sanchez have been dating since October 2012, less than a year after Suvari got divorced from husband SImone Sesito.
The cheesy Christmas card may have been a good release for Mena, who has been busy filming a new movie in the past few weeks. The movie, Badge of Honor, is an independent project, and few details have been released — but the cast list seems quite impressive. Suvari stars alongside legendary actor Martin Sheen, and Hailey Duff and Jesse Bradford have also signed on.
Suvari will play a police officer of some kind, and earlier this month she posted pictures of herself wearing a police uniform. Aside from her movie project, Mena is also coming off a stint on the successful program Chicago Fire.
Mena Suvari has now set herself up for next year. She and Sal will have to work pretty hard to top the awkwardness of this year’s card.
