Garth Brooks Gaga

Garth Brooks Gaga, Garth Brooks remains a giant it the music industry to this day. He single-handedly made country music become the most popular form of music in the mid-1990s via his dominance of record sales. Decades later, his live performance at the Wynn Hotel’s Encore Theatre became a highlight of the Thanksgiving Weekend. Brooks’ event was his finale to a lucrative five year deal where he performed four concerts a week over a fifteen week stretch each year starting in October 2009.

During the concert, Brooks spoke of the musical influences that helped evolve his own brand. It was his father that turned him on to doing early cover versions from the great county singers Merle Haggard with “Mama Tried” and George Jones with “She Still Thinks I Care”. His mother got him to appreciate R&B with songs from Otis Redding’s “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”.

He was raised in the Yukon, or rather Yukon, Oklahoma, as the baby of the family with five older siblings. They got him interested in 1960s and 70s Rock ‘n’ Roll by playing Simon and Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson” and James Taylor’s “Sweet Baby James”. An 8-disc box set of performances he did during his 5-years at the Wynn is now available called “Blame It All on My Roots: Live at the Wynn”.
