Daniel Escobar dies

Daniel Escobar dies, Daniel Escobar, who played a teacher on the Disney Channel series "Lizzie McGuire," has died at age 49.

The actor passed away on Friday, Dec. 13, at a Los Angeles hospital, where he had been battling complications from diabetes, his spokesperson confirmed to OTRC.com on Tuesday.

He played Mr. Escobar on "Lizzie McGuire," which starred a teenage Hilary Duff, between 2001 and 2002. The series ended in 2004. Escobar reprised his role in the "Lizzie McGuire Movie," which was released in 2003.

"I'm very sad to hear about Daniel Escobar's passing. He made us laugh with his role as theater teacher 'Mr. Escobar' on 'Lizzie McGuire,'" tweeted former co-star Jake Thomas, who is 22 and played Lizzie's little brother, Matt.

Escobar also appeared in the movies "The Mexican" and "Blow" and on the shows "Dharma & Greg," "NYPD Blue," "Desperate Housewives" and "Weeds." He last acted onscreen in 2011, playing small roles on the comedy shows "How I Met Your Mother" and "Whitney."
