Casper The would-be robbers ran from the building and remain at large, A clerk at a Casper hotel used a gun she kept in her lunchbox to thwart a robbery at her business early Friday, police said.
The worker pulled out the gun after two men with covered faces approached her and said they were going to rob the hotel. The would-be robbers ran from the building and remain at large, said Sgt. Deahn Amend.
No shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident.
The men entered the Quality Inn on Poplar Street shortly before 1 a.m. and spoke with a woman working at the front desk.
“This is no joke,” one of them said. “This is a holdup.”
The woman did not see either suspect brandish a weapon. But one of the men did make a “gun gesture” with his right hand, Amend said. The clerk responded by pulling a gun, which police did not identify, from her lunchbox.
The clerk wasn’t working when a reporter visited the hotel Friday afternoon.
Police released a scant description of the suspects: two black men with thin builds.
The failed heist occurred three days after a pair of men with bandannas over their faces robbed a hotel in Laramie. The men in that case made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police in Casper planned to contact authorities in Laramie to determine whether there the two crimes were connected, Amend said.
Two men with covered faces also robbed a hotel in Loveland, Colo., early Thursday morning. Descriptions of those suspects were similar to those in the Laramie heist, according to press accounts.
Last month, a customer at a Casper nail salon scared away a gunman with a pistol she kept in her purse. The suspect had reached for a gun in his coat after a worker turned down his offer to buy some diamonds.
The customer was getting her nails done at the time of the incident.
