Borneo Marbled Cat: Rare Cat Caught on Camera
Borneo Marbled Cat: Rare Cat Caught on Camera, In Borneo, the rare marbled bay cat has been caught on camera.

Little is known about the mysterious cat, according to researchers, but it is believed to be at risk of extinction.

The cat has been captured on camera very few times. Adults weigh 6 to 9 pounds and have long tails.

“We were completely surprised to see so many bay cats at these sites in Borneo where natural forests have been so heavily logged for the timber trade,” said Dr. Robert Ewers of the Imperial College London, who leads the SAFE Project, in the announcement.

“Conservationists used to assume that relatively few wild animals can live in logged forest, but we now know this land can be home for many endangered species,” he said.

“Our study today shows solid evidence that even top carnivores, such as these magnificent bay cats, can survive in commercially logged forests.”
