Ride Operator Arrested, On Oct. 27, Fox News reported that Timothy Dwayne Tutterrow, 46, was arrested and it is believed that he may have tampered with the ride that he was running causing a major disaster at the fair this weekend.
"Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said that investigators believe that the 'Vortex' ride was tampered with and critical safety devices were compromised. Harrison added that more arrests could be made," Fox News reports. The "Vortex" is known to flip riders over and whip them around in an exhilarating, adrenaline-pumping attraction.
The ride operator arrested has been working for Family Attractions for over four years. Officials believe that he did something to compromise the safety of the ride which resulted in a few injuries, some more serious than others. Basically, when the "Vortex" came to a stop and riders were getting off, it decided to start moving again. Two people were treated and are said to be okay but three others are still in the hospital today.
A witness who got off the ride before things went wrong told the media that "he turned around and saw two people lying face down. He saw the ride operator fall to his knees and start crying" (via Fox News).
After the ride operator arrested, the ride was closed and it will remain closed for the duration of the fair.
