Octavia Spencer to star in 'Murder She Wrote' remake

Octavia Spencer to star in 'Murder She Wrote' remake, NBC is working on a new version of the classic TV series "Murder She Wrote" with U.S. actress Octavia Spencer as the titular sleuth, EW.com said.

Spencer won an Oscar for her work in the film "The Help."

She will play the lead in the pilot for the new "Murder She Wrote," which was penned by "Desperate Housewives" writer-producer Alexandra Cunningham, EW.com.

The original series, which ran 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996, starred Angela Lansbury.
