Lolo jones bobsled, With another solid performance at the U.S. women's bobsled selection races, track and field star Lolo Jones earned a spot on the World Cup team and now has a shot to participate in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Jones, a push athlete, and bobsled driver Jazmine Fenlator finished third at a U.S. selection race on Friday in Park City, Utah, and were named to the World Cup team Saturday morning. They also finished third at a selection race on Oct. 12 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Jones finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2012 London Olympics.
Drivers Elana Meyers, who won bronze as a push athlete at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and Jamie Greubel were also named to the World Cup team.
The other push athletes named to the World Cup team are: Emily Azevedo, Katie Eberling, two-time national push champion Aja Evans, Kristi Koplin and Lauryn Williams, who won a silver medal in the 100-meter race at the 2004 Athens Olympics and a gold medal in the 4x100-meter relay at the 2012 London Olympics.
This is the fastest and most prepared group of athletes we've ever seen," U.S. Bobsled & Skeleton Federation CEO Darrin Steele said. "It was difficult to narrow the women's push field to six and it will be even more challenging to select the top three for the Olympic team in a few months. The hard work and dedication has paid off and I couldn't be more proud of all these athletes."
Jones still has work to do to make the Olympic team. The U.S. is guaranteed at least one team and can qualify as many as three teams for Sochi based on World Cup results.
On Friday, Fenlator-Jones was third with two-heat time of one minute, 39.92 seconds, just behind Greubel-Azevedo (1:39.41) and Meyers-Tracey Stewart (1:39.71). Fenlator-Jones had the second-best overall start time.
The men's bobsled team will be announced Sunday, after Saturday's conclusion of men's selection races.
