We’ve recently seen a bunch of great parents responding positively to their children coming out, but this one goes above and beyond.
A father, who learned that his daughter disowned his grandson because he was gay, reacted in a way that will blow your mind.
Although his decision had to be a difficult one, the dad chose to disown his daughter for disowning her son upon learning he is gay.
The letter was posted on Monday to the pro-gay youth organization FCKH8′s Facebook page.
As Yahoo Shine reports, FCKH8 spoke to the grandfather and grandson to confirm that the letter is real. It is. It was sent in by the teen himself.
Below is the letter his grandpa wrote to his mom after she apparently disowned her gay son, calling him a ‘shame in the family.’
Dear Christine,
I’m disappointed in you as a daughter. You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family”, but mistaken about what it is. Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real “abomination” here. A parent disowning her child is what goes “against nature.” The only intelligent thing I heard you saying in all this was that “you didn’t raise your son to be gay.” Of course you didn’t.
He was born this way and didn’t choose it any more than he being left-handed. You however, have made a choice of being hurtful, narrow-minded and backward. So, while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I’ll take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as the gays put it) grandson to raise, and I don’t have time for heart-less B-word of a daughter. If you find your heart, give us a call. – Dad.

I’m especially thrilled to read about this because we often assume elderly people aren’t as enlightened about sexuality as we are and this story turns that stereotype on its head. You just never know, folks.
If only every grandparent and parent could be as loving and intelligent as this grandpa, we would be a kinder, gentler nation. Go on with your bad self, gramps!
